The annual Taungpyone spirit (Nat) festival returns for the fourth year in a row to Taungpyone Gyi village, located in マンダレー Region’s Madaya Township, on Aug. 21-28. Madaya is located 24 miles (38 km) north of マンダレー along the highways to Mogok and Myitkyina, the Kachin State capital. One festival attendee told DVB that it there has been an increase in visitors this year compared to previous years due to performances by Sanyay Moe ミャンマー, a traditional dance troop from ヤンゴン. The Mae Tao Clinic in Mae Sot, Thailand, has become the first non-Japanese recipient of the biennial Okinawa Peace Prize. Founded by Dr. Cynthia Maung in 1989 following ミャンマー’s ‘8888 Uprising,’ the clinic provides essential healthcare, education, and protection services to internally displaced persons (IDPs), refugees, and migrant workers along the Thai–ミャンマー border. Established in December 2001 by Japan’s Okinawa Prefecture, the Okinawa Peace Prize is awarded every two years to organizations or individuals who contribute significantly to peace-building across the Asia-Pacific region. The chief architect of that genocide was the military’s then commander-in-chief, ミン・アウン・フライン. For decades, the Rohingya’s rights were dismantled step by step. First they were stripped of ethnic recognition and meaningful political representation, then denied citizenship.  Their freedom of movement was restricted, along with access to livelihoods, education and healthcare.
